Meet our Judges

LEDinside has carefully selected a team of distinguished industry heavy weights to judge and evaluate the applicants for LEDinside Aurora Award. There are a number of conditions that must be met for being able to evaluate LED products including lifespan, color gamut, market share, technology content, sales, capacity and price/performance ratio.

James, Mu-Tao Chu Director of W Division Opto-Electronics Device and System Applications Division, Industrial Technology Research Institute

Mr. Mu-Tao Chu serves as Research Director of Electronics and Optoelectronics Research Laboratories at Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute. His extensive experience in the technology industry includes:
- Leader of the Science and Technology Opto-Semiconductors project, Ministry of Economic Affairs
- Leader of the Optoelectronics project at the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs
- Executive Secretary of TaiwanOptoelectronic Semiconductor Industry Association (TOSIA)
- Winner of the 24th "Management Excellence Award"
- Winner of the “Project Excellence” award Technology Development Program (TDP), Ministry of Economic Affairs
- Winner of the US “R&D 100”Award (2008) for On-Chip ACLED lighting Technology

Ching-Cherng Sun National Central University , Chair of the Department of Optics and Photonics
Ching-Cherng Sun received his BS in Electrophysics from National Chiao Tung University in 1988 and his Ph. D. in Optical Sciences, from National Central University, in Jan. 1993. Then he served as a half-year postdoctor in Optical Sciences Center of National Central University. In 1996, he joined the faculty of National Central University and served as an associate professor at the Institute of Optical Sciences . He has become a full professor since 2002. He served as the chairman of the SPIE Taiwan Chapter in 2002-2003. Dr. Sun was awarded the first grade research award of the National Science Council (1996-2002), the teaching award of the Science College of NCU (2001), outstanding research award of National Central University (2005), named the Distinguished Professor at NCU since 2006, was presented Optical Technology Contribution Award of the Optical Engineering Society of the Republic of China in 2006, Industry Contribution Award for University Professor by the Ministry of Economic Affair of ROC in 2009, and the Outstanding Research Award by the National Science Council of ROC in 2009-2011. In August 2008, he served as the Director of the Institute of Lighting and Display Science, which is the first lighting related institute in Taiwan. He has become the Chair of the Department of Optics and Photonics since 2009. He is currently a Fellow of both The International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and Optical Society of America (OSA), a member of the Optical Engineering Society of Republic of China and the Illuminating Society of Taiwan. His research interests are LED lighting optics, volume holographic storage, display optics, photorefractive devices, holographic optical elements, optical information processing, optical metrology, micro-optics and optical engineering.

Roger Chu LEDinside (TrendForce Corp.), Research Director
Roger Chu oversees the Green Energy Business Unit of TrendForce Corp., and specializes in market research on the LED industry, including end-product makers ranging from LED components, lighting, backlight to manufacturers. Additionally, he also handles the research on batteries in the Green Energy Business Unit. Mr.Chu once was an analyst at DRAMeXchange. He also worked for Hua Nan Securities as an analyst and Qunmao Management Consulting Company as a management trainee. His previous research scope covered DRAM, packaging and testing as well as other electronic industries. Mr.Chu graduated from the Graduate Institute of Finance, Chaoyang University of Technology
